Template, YouTube vid (coming soon), + FAQs

Here’s the Notion template with reflection questions I ask myself weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly:

I’ll be filming an in-depth YouTube tutorial with how I set up my systems - you’ll get an email when it’s available!

FAQs

How much time does it take?

Initial setup: 1-2 hours

Daily/weekly habits: less than 15 min (I usually pair it with another activity, like I’ll journal on the bus or while on the toilet 😂)

Monthly reflections: 30-60 mins (the photo boards take a while, but it helps me be grateful of all I’ve accomplished)

Quarterly and yearly reflection questions: it depends on how in-depth I write, but usually 15-30 mins

Why do you track everything?

I have a terrible memory and it reminds me to be grateful when look back on everything! I also have a terrible attention span, so I’ll never actually reflect on my life if I didn’t write it down.

How can beginners get started?

I started in 2017 by tracking just 1 metric I cared about. Then I built up the system over a few years as I got used to tracking things.

You can start with the easy reflection questions on my Notion template. No need to get overwhelmed with fancy data dashboards yet, unless you’re a data nerd like me.

I learned how to do data analysis through EntryLevel.net’s Excel and Tableau course, it’s very beginner friendly. This time tracking was my capstone project for the course. Use code JEN10 for 10% off!

What are your key learnings from tracking your life?

I still need to do an in-depth analysis (it’ll take a few hours) but I’ve noticed I tend to rank my happiness higher when I:

  • Spend more time with friends

  • Feel like I’ve accomplished something I’m proud of (doesn’t have to be “productive” - it can be something like learning how to make my own top)

In 2022 I was sad because I never got invites to Halloween parties or New Year’s parties. So my focus in 2023 was to be the friend that I wanted, and I hosted fun events and took initiative to invite friends out. This year, I felt so grateful to get invites to so many things that it’s a struggle to fit it all in my calendar.

I realized I accomplished this because every day I’d get reminded of my goals by filling out my habit tracker, so even if I didn’t take specific action towards them, they were always on my mind.

That’s why I recommend you use the Notion template to set your goals (and turn them into systems) for 2024! It’s the easiest, most impactful thing you can do.

In the meantime, let me know what you’re most excited to learn about!
