Day 5 habit challenge: focus

Day 5 of the habit challenge! Happy weekend - it can be hard to stick to habits on days off.

Yesterday, we learned about how to create a consistent morning routine (and if you’re a day late, don’t worry - catch up on yesterday’s post here and leave a comment).

Today, I’ll share why focus is important (i.e. picking 1 new habit to start with).

Confessions of a multitasker

I’ll be the first to admit, I lack focus.

I’m always responding to DMs while on my daily outdoor walk…

Or working on mindless admin tasks during Zoom calls…

You get the idea.

So why focus for your habits?

Story time: my marathon era focus

Last year, I focused on marathon training (focus on health). I was able to reach my goal of completing a marathon.

In previous years, I was always “too busy” to go on runs.

It was because I didn’t focus on my health.

I always felt overwhelmed by how much work I had to do…

I made excuses for not taking action on what I said I valued (health).

But when I focused on my health and lived in line with my values, it became a non-negotiable. I’d wake up early or run in the rain (free shower lol).

No matter how busy I was, I’d make time for a run.

Your turn: what’s your focus?

Examples:

  • Physical health (30 min exercise per day)

  • Mental health (meditation, therapy, writing 1 thing you’re grateful for daily)

  • Relationships (reaching out to 1 friend per week to catch up)

  • Career

Post about your focus on social media and tag me @VeganTechNomad (or reply to this email, I’d love to hear from you).
