The centipede's dilemma

And how it helps you achieve your goals

In partnership with

One day, a toad asked her:

“Which leg moves after which?”

After thinking about it too much,

The centipede lost her ability to walk.

But what does that have to do with achieving your goals?

I’ll share more below + a recent example from my life.

I felt stuck for months

“I want to do a 30 day habit consistency challenge, but it’s so much work.”

I struggled with this for months from February to April.

Didn’t take any action on my goals…

The more I thought about it, the more complicated it got.

But on April 29, I made a post before I felt prepared.

The only thing I did was create a form to collect emails.

Simple and easy.

And every single day in May, I sent an email as part of the 30 day challenge.

Took 15 min a day to write.

(I even wrote Day 11 in the back of an Uber home at 12am.)

I figured things out along the way.

And now, 1 month later, I’ve achieved more than the entire 3 months I spent feeling overwhelmed.

The centipede teaches us not to overthink our goals

Ever heard of the game QWOP?

You control the leg muscles of a runner and try to go as far as you can.

It should be easy, right?

Since you know how to run.

But it’s a hard game…

You overthink where each leg is supposed to go,

And it stops you from getting far.

(Reply and let me know if you beat my score 😂)

“everyone is a winner” vs me at 0.8m… 😭

What projects will you simplify to reach your goals?

Examples:

  • Going to the gym → asking ChatGPT for a custom, beginner-friendly plan to start your research

  • Eating healthier → eat 1 apple a day

  • Improving your career → connect with 1 new person on LinkedIn every day
